How you could get a Sky discount

If you’re a TV addict, you might pay for a Sky subscription. After all, it gives you access to great TV and films whenever you want it.
But a Sky subscription doesn’t come cheap – it can easily cost over £500 a year to get your TV fix. But is there anything you can do to save money on this?
As a matter of fact, you might actually be able to get a pretty decent discount, just by telling Sky you’re planning to cancel. We’ll take you through how you can do this.
Looking to cancel your deal?
Start by logging into your Sky account online. Go to the ‘Thinking of cancelling Sky?’ page.
Scroll down to the bottom of the page and find the ‘Still looking to leave?’ headline, and click on the ‘Sky TV’ link. Just make sure you’ve logged in before you try to view this page.
Sky will then ask you to take a short survey if you’re eligible for a discount – you won’t be able to do this if you’ve already had another offer recently. This will ask you why you want to cancel your Sky package. Click on ‘worried about the cost’ and you should be able to get a discount off the cost of your Sky package.
This can be up to 20%, working out as a saving of almost £140 a year, depending on what you pay. If you want to keep your Sky subscription, this can mean you’ll get it for less.
Just keep in mind that if you accept the discount, you’re also signing up to a new contract. This usually means you’ll need to stay with Sky for another year. There’s nothing wrong with this – if you’re sure you want to stick with Sky, it’s worth getting it cheaper. But if you’re genuinely considering cancelling, make sure you think twice before signing up for a new deal.
How else to save
Trying to cancel your package isn’t the only way you can save on your Sky bill. You might also be able to switch to a cheaper deal by dropping some of the channels you don’t really watch as much. For example, if you have Sky Q, this could cost as much as £54 a month. Switching to basic Sky would mean you’d pay just £20 a month – and if you don’t use all of the extra features on Sky Q, you might not need it.
You can also go subscription-free and get a streaming service like Netflix, Amazon Prime or NOW TV. With streaming services, you can pay monthly and just cancel if you don’t want the services anymore. And as NOW TV is a Sky streaming service, you can get all of its channels with various NOW TV packages.
