Getting the chance to spend quality time with the kids over the summer holidays is great. However, entertaining them for weeks on end can be so expensive that it's often a secret relief to pack them off to school again in September.

But then there are the 'back to school' expenses to think about: uniforms, stationery, books and all the other bits and bobs they need. Thinkmoney has found these back to school deals to help take some of the strain off.

Deals and prices were correct on 23.08.13, but may have been removed or changed by the retailer since then. Prices may or may not include VAT, postage and packaging.

Stationery and books

Selected stationery is just £1 at ASDA.

Get 3 for 2 on 'back to school essentials' at WHSmith - like pens, calculators and maths sets.

For the little things like pencils, pens, rubbers, rulers, pencil sharpeners and sticky notes, there's a handy 4 for £1 offer on at Wilko.

Stationery, pencil cases, notebooks, diaries, folders and other useful stuff is £1 each at Poundland (what else would you expect?). There's also a 3 for £1 offer on some items.

You can get 15% off your purchase at Paperchase with the code OFFER15 until 25.08.13 (so only a couple of days left). There's also a 3 for 2 offer on selected stationery. These offers can be used together - which is quite nice.

There's up to 75% off school books at WHSmith - so take their reading list in there and stock up.

If you can't find the right book at WHSmith, they might have it at a reduced price at Waterstones.

Clothing and uniform

Uniforms are predictably cheap at ASDA, and you can get free delivery on schoolwear orders over £20 with the code SCHOOL06 until 01.09.13.

Tesco say you can get a complete uniform there from £10.

Get a pair of shoes, a pair of trainers, some plimsolls and a bag for £20 until 07.08.13 at Shoe Zone.

Morrisons are doing a V'1, 2, 3' offer on uniforms . It's £1 for socks, £2 for shirts and £3 for trousers, jumpers and skirts.

If you're after a backpack, there's 25% off selected bags at Argos.

There's also a big 'back to school' sale on at Sports Direct, which means you could pick up a backpack, shoes, coats or other sporty things for less.
