This Thursday (2 March) is the day to get your child reading, dressing up as a book character and generally getting involved in all things literary. Yes, it’s time for World Book Day once again!

World Book Day 2017 marks 20 years of the charity event and to celebrate, some of the country’s most popular children’s authors are offering new books for just £1. Find out how you can take part in World Book Day 2017 and what your child can get for free.

£1 book tokens

All school children in the UK and Ireland get a £1 book token for World Book Day. Your child should get this from their teacher – so it might be worth checking their school bag if you’ve not seen it!

Your child can then use their book token to get £1 off the cost of any book – they can use it at WH Smith, Waterstones, Blackwell, Eason, John Smiths and a whole host of independent bookshops across the UK and Ireland. Or if you’d prefer, your little one can use their book token for one of the exclusive £1 World Book Day 2017 books – meaning they’ll pick it up for free.

Here are the £1 books available for World Book Day 2017.

•  Pre-school books: Peppa Loves World Book Day and Everyone Loves Underpants by Claire Freedman and Ben Cort.

•  Key Stage 1 books: Where’s Wally? The Fantastic Journey by Martin Handford, Princess Mirror-Belle and Snow White by Julia Donaldson & Lydia Monks, Good Old Timmy and Other Stories by Enid Blyton and Horrid Henry: Funny Fact Files by Francesca Simon.

•  Key Stage 2 books: Blob by David Walliams and Butterfly Beach by Jacqueline Wilson.

•  Key Stage 3 books: Island by David Almond and Dead of Night: A Front Lines Story by Michael Grant.

The £1 World Book Day book tokens are valid until Sunday 26 March 2017, so make sure you use it before then.

Free resources

And the £1 book token isn’t all your child can get free this World Book Day – there’s a range of great resources available on the World Book Day website. You can download and print off free puzzles and also get guides and discussion questions for all of this year’s World Book Day books. And for younger kids you can even print off a selection of colouring and drawing sheets, so children of all ages get to celebrate the day.

You could also get another free book just by signing up to a cashback app. TopCashback is currently offering new customers a free book from the Book People – you just have to buy it through the app and claim your money back.
