What to get the man in your life for Christmas

As the countdown to Christmas really hots up, it’s not unusual to discover that you’ve spent so much time and effort looking for the perfect gifts for your kids, parents, siblings and friends that you’ve left it too late to think about your partner. The pressure of finding the perfect present for a boyfriend or husband that will be better than what you got them last year AND that they’ll love is always daunting.

In fact, it’s not unusual to find yourself forking out a fortune on a stocking-full of gifts you’re not even sure they will like, just because you haven’t had time to plan. But before you really start to panic, take a look at our list of the top gift ideas for the man in your life – no matter what your budget. These prices were correct at the time of writing (11/12/13), but may have since changed or items been removed by the retailer. Prices may or may not include VAT and postage and packaging.Stocking fillers (£10 or less)

He might be all grown up, but your bloke will rediscover his inner child if he’s presented with a stocking on Christmas Day morning. You don’t have to spend a fortune on little gifts, but he’ll certainly enjoy opening them all.

If your guy is still missing his Movember moustache, help keep the memory alive for him with this moustache case for the iPhone 4 from Zazzle – it only costs £8. Alternatively, you could get him a set of moustache straws. We found them for just £2.50 at The Good Cook Shop.

Does your guy fancy himself as a bit of a rock star? If so, stick this set of pens and pencils shaped like drumsticks (£4.95 from Red5) in his stocking so he can start practicing – he could be the next Ringo Starr.

If the man in your life loves nothing more than the smell of bacon in the morning, he can enjoy it every day with this gift – without you having to get up and cook. This bacon-scented soap will mean he can enjoy the smell first thing in the morning when he showers – and we found it cheapest at Prezzy Box, for £4.95.

It might not be very exciting, but socks are always a useful gift at Christmas – particularly if your boyfriend or hubby has got to the stage where every pair he owns is miss-matched. Let him commit the ultimate fashion faux-pas with this socks and sandals design, available for £5.50 at Presents for Men.

Finally, no Christmas stocking is complete without some sweet treats. This Tabasco Spicy Chocolate (£4.99 at Firebox) certainly packs some heat or, for a real bargain, you could snap up this chilli dark chocolate block from Thorntons for just £1.89. Alternatively, he could have a go at making his own, with this grow-your-own extreme chilli plant, available at Prezzy Box for £4.95.

Under the tree (£100 or less)

You don’t have to break the bank to make it a Christmas to remember for the man in your life. Instead, invest in one main present and a couple of small ones to wrap up and place under the tree this year.

A good book will keep him occupied throughout the bank holiday weekend. If he could do with a few tips on ‘staying classy’, treat him to ‘Let Me Off At The Top!’ by Anchorman star Ron Burgundy. It’s available for just £8 on Amazon. Alternatively, if he dreams of being an amateur detective and he’s regularly glued to BBC Three’s Sherlock, let him pretend to be a real expert with this Sherlock Holmes-inspired cover for his mini tablet or e-reader. Available on Truffle Shuffle for £24.99, the cover is a handmade replica of a 1905 book cover, and was created in partnership with The British Library.

They say food is the way to a man’s heart, so putting some chocolate under the tree will definitely be appreciated. Prezzy Box is offering this 7” make your own chocolate pizza for only £12.95. He can make the base himself by melting down the chocolate buttons and letting them set, before choosing his own toppings – just like a real pizza.

When Boxing Day arrives, your man will probably be looking for any excuse to relax on the sofa for a while, so why not treat him to a boxset? Breaking Bad is the show everyone has been talking about this year and you can buy the complete set from Asda for £49.97, or – if he’s not yet familiar with the exploits of Walter White – you can get season one for just £10. If your man is into his horror, he’ll love zombie show The Walking Dead – and you can get the complete first season for £12 at Asda.

For something a little more romantic than zombies and blood splatter, an aftershave is a luxurious gift. Esquire magazine named Paco Rabanne’s Invictus as one of the best new scents this year, and the best deal we found was £34 for a 50ml bottle at Boots.

A coat is another hard-to-beat present at Christmas, especially as the weather turns cold. This wool pea coat from Next is a design that will never go out of style – and it’s a snip at £79.

Gifts to remember

Choosing an experience day makes for a present to remember, and is certainly more exciting than the traditional knitted sweater. So, your partner is sure to be thrilled to get something like this on Christmas Day.

There’s little that beats the thrill of racing around a track in a super car – particularly if your guy is usually confined to speeds of 30MPH. Track Days is currently offering the Supercar Driving Blast experience for only £39 (down from £59) and it’s available at four venues across the UK. Your bloke will be able to appease his need for speed in his choice of supercar, including a Ferrari, Porsche or Lamborghini.

For something a little more sedate, book a cooking course you can enjoy together. At Buyagift, you can buy tickets for Sushi Making at none other than YO! Sushi for £30. There’ll be no holding him back from showing off his culinary skills after he’s attended this cookery class, which is available at seven UK locations.

Finally, for an experience neither of you will ever forget, why not consider zorbing? What’s zorbing you ask? Well, it basically involves being put in a giant inflatable ball and rolled down a hill at speeds of up to 30MPH. It’s the perfect gift for anyone who grew up watching Gladiators – and you can get tickets for harness Zorbing for two people at Asda now for £43.

We hope some of these ideas provide you with inspiration – but if you’ve already bought a present for the man in your life, why not share your tips below?
