Opening a thinkmoney Personal Account

Here's our simple step-by-step guide to opening an account with us.

1. Fill in the apply form

Please double-check that all the details you enter are correct, to make opening your account as easy as possible.

2. Identification

We need to verify your identity before we can open your account. In most case we can do this electronically, but in some cases we might need a few more things from you. You can see a list of the forms of ID we accept here.

3. An adviser will call you

Once we've confirmed your identity, one of our advisers will be in touch to help you get your account set up. They'll send you an application form which you'll need to sign, date and return to us. If we need any other documents your adviser will let you know.

4. Welcome to thinkmoney!

As soon as we've received your paperwork, we'll open your account and send you your thinkmoney Prepaid Debit MasterCard®!

Why opening a bank account is important

A bank account gives you:

  • Somewhere to keep your money safe
  • A convenient way of paying bills (e.g. Direct Debit)
  • A debit card for spending money

… yet according to latest estimates, more than 1 million people in the UK don't have one. This can make managing your finances very difficult.

It can be difficult to open a bank account if you have a poor credit history, particularly if you've been made bankrupt in the past. But there are accounts available - it's often just a matter of knowing where to look.

The thinkmoney Personal Account is open to all UK residents over the age of 18, regardless of credit history or personal circumstances. There's no credit check, so applying is easy. And you'll get a range of great benefits including a budgeting service that ensures your bills are paid on time and only lets you spend the money that's left over. It costs £14.50 a month (£21.25 for joint accounts), but that's all you'll ever pay - no charges for missed or rejected payments.
