If you can’t treat yourself at Christmas time then when can you? After all, in just a couple of weeks’ time you’ll be making (and maybe even sticking to) your New Year’s Resolutions, so don’t you deserve a real feast before then?

The good news is that, with all the big supermarkets competing for your Christmas pounds, there are some great deals waiting for you out there. What’s more, we’ve done the rounds on your behalf to seek out big savings on everything from champagne to the Christmas cheese board.

It’s probably too late to book an online shopping delivery slot in time for Christmas so you’ll have to go to the shops in person for them - but all the deals are available in store. We’ve only chosen offers that are running until at least December 31st but they are all subject to availability so it would be a good idea to snap them up soon. Happy shopping!

Cheers for champagne

Every Christmas needs a little bit of fizz, and it’s also the perfect way to see in the New Year. One of the biggest bargains we’ve come across is at ASDA where you can buy Pierre Darcys Champagne Brut N/V for just £10 a bottle, a saving of £14.25 on the usual price of £24.25. It’s described as the perfect accompaniment to fish so you might also want to pick up some of their Extra Special Smoked Salmon with Glen Moray whisky at £2.50 for 100 grams down from £4.00.

That’s the spirit

While we’re on the subject of Christmas drinks, it’s always a good time of year to stock up on spirits and liqueurs, especially when you’re expecting lots of visitors to drop in for a cup of seasonal cheer. The Co-operative Food has some of the best offers we could find. For example, they’re selling a 70ml bottle of 12 year old Glenlivet malt whisky for just £22, down from the normal price of £33.45. For liqueur lovers they’re offering a 50cl bottle of Disaronno Amaretto for just £13, down from £15.95.

Best value beers and wines

Sainsbury’s has some great savings waiting for you on its beers and wines. For example, there’s a wide range of ales, lagers and ciders at £18 for two cases including John Smith’s, Beck’s and Magners. You can mix whichever brands you like from the ones included in the offer and still enjoy the saving.

Their equivalent offer on wines means you can get any two bottles for just £12. At just over £4 a bottle, it really is great value and with several wines to choose from there are sure to be ones to suit every palate.

If you think that no Christmas is complete without a warming glass of mulled wine then Sainsbury’s is also the place to go. Their authentic German Taste The Difference Mulled Wine is down from £5.79 to just £4.00 a bottle.

Nuts for nibbles?

There’s nothing like a tasty canapé or two to really make a Christmas party and Asda have a huge selection to choose from including mini quiches, stuffed jalapeno peppers, potato wedges and salmon appetisers. Best of all, there are deals available across the whole range, with one of the best being just £4 for two packs.

If it’s a big party and you really want to push the boat out then why not turn to Marks and Spencer for your party food? There’s a huge selection of tasty delicacies including 24 mini beef- filled Yorkshire puddings for £12, 18 mini hamburgers for £10 and 24 vegetable spring rolls for £8.

Meat treats and veggie variations

If you’re looking forward to a meat feast over Christmas and New Year then you’re in for a real treat, and some amazing savings. For example Morrisons, are offering beef, pork and lamb joints at half price.

But let’s not forget the centrepiece of the big day itself. If you haven’t already ordered your turkey then you’ll probably have to settle for a frozen one this year. But don’t worry, there are bound to still be plenty in store. The best value we’ve found is at Tesco where you can buy a 5.3kg to 6.9kg basted bird to feed up to 14 people for just £20.

One Christmas dinner option that’s been hitting the headlines recently comes from Iceland. For the incredible price of just £20 you can have a three -course Christmas dinner for four or for £40 you can cater for ten people including a choice of three mouthwatering desserts.

Of course, not everyone’s a meat eater so we’ve also found a couple of vegetarian options, again from Tesco. Why not try a wild mushroom, chestnut and stilton roast , especially as they’re just £2 for two? For fish eaters there are two luxurious salmon en croutes for £4, or two packs for £7.

Proof of the Pudding

Every year magazines and newspapers run taste tests for a lot of the supermarkets’ seasonal fare and the winning Christmas pudding is usually the one that really grabs the headlines. Both the winner and the runner up in Good Housekeeping’s battle of the puds came from Aldi. Unsurprisingly, the overall winner sold out quickly but the second placed Luxury Champagne Pudding is still available for £9.99.

The cheese course

It’s the perfect end to any belt-busting meal when the cheese board is brought out – and one company has even brought out a limited edition cheese this year which contains all the flavours of Christmas, including sprouts, carrots and turkey!

For cheeses that may be more to everyone’s taste it’s hard to beat the Tesco 7 cheese selection featuring brie, cheddar, Wensleydale with cranberries, stilton, smoked cheese, red Leicester and edam all for just £4 down from the normal price of £8.

Pair it with their 500g pack of Biscuits For Cheese for £2.49 and you’ll save another 50p on the normal price of £2.99.

Bon appetit!
