We’re not far into the summer holidays, but it’s an ideal time to start thinking about heading back to school. Even though the start of term is still a few weeks away, leaving it to the last minute could see you faced with low stock and tedious crowds.

Not only that but starting early could mean that you take advantage of early bird savings and get your kids school uniform for less. To help you start ticking items off your ‘to-do’ list, we’re going to take you through some of the cheapest school uniform ranges on the high-street.*

Aldi – from £3.44

Aldi and Lidl are competing for the cheapest school outfit, with both discount retailers offering the essential pieces for under £4.

Here’s the basic range Aldi offers.

• 2 x polo shirt (girls and boys) - £1.25.

• Sweater (red or navy) - £0.94.

• Skirt - £1.25.

• 2 x pinafore dress - £5.99.

• Trousers (girls and boys) - £1.25.

A pack of polo shirts, a sweater and a skirt or pair of trousers will cost you just £3.44. The full range of school wear was released online and in store as part of a Specialbuy from 14 July, so you better be quick if you want to bag yourself a bargain.

Lidl – from £3.65

Lidl’s budget school uniform hit stores from 21 July, and shoppers will be able to pick up a basic uniform for less than a few household items.

The discount retailer is offering two polo shirts, a jumper and skirt or trouser for just £3.65. Its full range includes 41 pieces for back to school including school shoes from £6.99.

Lidl insists that the low price does not mean that the quality of the items has been compromised. You can shop the full range by heading in store today.

Morrisons – from £7

Morrisons follows closely behind Aldi and Lidl, offering an essential school uniform from £7. These are the prices of just a few of its key pieces.

• 2 x polo shirts – from £2 to £3.

• Sweatshirt – from £2 to £3.

• Skirt – from £3 to £4.

• Short – from £4 to £6.

• Dress – from £4 to £5.

• Trousers – from £6 to £8.

The range is suitable for children aged 4 – 13. It’s available online and in stores that stock its Nutmeg clothing range.

Asda – from £8

George at Asda isn’t too much different in price, featuring a basic range from £8. Here are the prices of some of its essentials.

• 2 x polo shirts – from £2.50 to £4.

• Sweatshirt – from £2 to £4.

• Skirt – from £3.50 to £7.

• Dress – from £4 to £6.

• Trousers – from £3 to £5.

• Short – from £2.50 to £4.
