Dress like an Olympian – Rio inspired sportswear on a budget
Published 10 August 2016 by Kyri Levendi
You don’t have to spend a fortune to dress like an Olympian!
With the 2016 Olympics kicking off in Rio at the weekend and Team GB already bagging their first gold, you may feel motivated to get out and hit the pavement yourself.
But you’ll need to make sure you wear the appropriate clothing – no matter whether your aim is to get beach-body ready or simply get fitter. You no longer need to head to a specialist shop to kit yourself out in the latest sportswear, with the high-street offering stylish sportswear for a fraction of the price.
To make sure you look and feel the part, we’re going to show you affordable sportswear for both men and women.*
Stay supported – ladies, make sure you’re comfortable when working out by investing in some sports bras. This navy and coral sports bra from Primark will give you support and look stylish under your workout top. At £6, it’s a bargain.
Hint of colour – a touch of colour can make your sportswear that little bit more enjoyable to wear (and use!). So why not invest in some colourful pieces like this purple strappy workout vest or these orange woven shorts? Both are from Primark and cost £4 each.
Leg it – whether you’re running or taking a yoga class, a good pair of leggings can be ideal. You could go for some colourful ones like this tribal print sports pair from F&F Active or opt for something a little plainer like this pair of black workout leggings from Primark.
These leggings are £14 and £7 respectively – not bad prices!
Cover up – the UK weather can be unreliable, so make sure you stay protected with a cover up. This black woven jacket from Primark is affordable at £12 and will keep you dry if the rain clouds appear.
Protect your feet – you’ll need to pick up some running trainers if you don’t have some already. If you’re looking for some to get you started, you could try these sports running shoes from Tesco.
They’re only £9.99 and are getting some great reviews online.
Must-have tees – if you get hooked on training, you’re going to need a couple of different sports t-shirts to hand. You could pick up this grey sports t-shirt from Primark for only £3.50, or go for something like this blue patterned sports top from H&M at just £7.99.
Bottoms – depending on the type of exercise you’re interested in (and the weather outside), you’re going to need to dress appropriately. To run, go for something streamlined like this pair of black running leggings from Primark – they’re only £8.
Or you could pick up a pair of running shorts like these from H&M, currently reduced from £12.99 to £6.49.
Cover up – make sure you stay warm no matter the weather by picking up a sports jacket. You’ll certainly be seen in the night in something like this lime running jacket from Primark or you could opt for the teal running jacket.
Both jackets are from Primark and come in at £14 each.
Protect your feet – you’re going to need affordable trainers to pound the pavement so why not consider these sports running shoes from Tesco? They’re a bargain at £9.99.
Can’t afford to join a gym? Don’t worry – there are a number of ways to work out for free.
