Think 90s raves, the MTV-era and all things retro. At this year’s London Fashion Week, there were a lot of throwback fashion trends taking over the catwalk. One of the big looks we saw was oversized casual wear, with a smarter, edgier twist. You can mix and match casual pieces with something more tailored to make a really bold statement.

So to keep you on trend, here’s our pick* of what to look out for on the high street after London Fashion week on a budget.

Neon signs

Bright neon colours are in this year, so look out for a lot of yellow, orange and blue. If you don’t wear a lot of colour, look out for sweatshirts or jackets with a subtle pop of colour on a pocket, collar or hem line. You can beat those January blues with this orange sport jacket from Primark for just £15. It will look great with a simple pair of jeans and plain white t-shirt.

The big adventure

Hiking, exploring and travelling are something that many of us love doing. And some of this year’s trends have taken their cue from this look. Thick hiking socks, beanie hats, parka coats in neutral colours, all matched with warm orange, red and mustard. Be sure to dig out some old walking boots to bring this look together. Our pick is this military inspired utility shirt from Primark for £13 to give you an outdoorsy vibe.

Mother Nature

Green is a big colour for your wardrobe this year – think khaki, camouflage or rich deep green inspired by the forest. This khaki borglined parka for £35 from Primark will probably give you strong flashbacks to the ones we saw Oasis and Blur wearing during the 90s. You’ll get a lot of value from this and can wear it through most of the year.

Art attack

Art is another inspiration for this year’s fashion trends. Many of the London Fashion Week catwalk shows featured pieces with street-inspired graffiti prints and arty patterns. This jacquard-knit jumper might not look like a Banksy but it will definitely look great on. This is ideal for a night out – just match it with dark jeans or trousers. Find it at H&M for £19.99.

In the hood

Hoodies are big news again but this year, they’re oversized, with a smart twist. Wear them with your favourite skinny jeans to create a great casual trendy look. This hooded sweatshirt cardigan from H&M has a hidden diagonal zip, panelled stitching and made from soft grey sweatshirt fabric to give it extra luxury and softness. It’s an online exclusive at £29.99.
