Save money - watch an organised display for Bonfire Night 2016
Published 1 November 2016
Don’t blow the budget this Bonfire Night, see an organised fireworks display instead.
Whoosh, glitter, sparkle, bang – it’s time to dig out your warm clothing as Bonfire Night is here to light up the night sky once again. Though some of us like to have our own bonfire parties, our advice this year is to stay safe and go to one of many local organised events being run all over the country. It’s a great way to save money and enjoy the night with others.
If you do choose to celebrate this huge British tradition with some fun at home, why not buy some of the fantastic sparklers available. You don’t need to spend lots on a box of fireworks – instead, you can still have a little sparkle and fun with these, then head out to an organised display.
If you buy any type of firework, it’s important not to cut corners and always buy from a licensed shop. The law around fireworks prevents under 18s from buying, and it’s crucial that fireworks including sparklers show BS 7114 on the packaging, indicating they meet European standards.
Remember, anyone selling or using fireworks illegally can face a fine of £5,000 and six months in prison. You can also be hit with a £90 on-the-spot fine.
Get some sparkle in your life
Check out these sparkling offers* and don’t forget to light sparklers one at a time and wear gloves. Never give them to children under five. Once you finished with them, drop them in a cold bucket of water to ensure they’re extinguished before you dispose of them.
Once you’ve had fun at home with your sparklers, go out and enjoy an organised display. Wrap up well, get there early and enjoy the fun. There are organised events held in parks, stadiums with some at historical landmarks and settings. Check with your local council and papers to find out more. Here’s a few we’ve selected.
