Steal the style of David Gandy and Dermot O'Leary
Published 12 October 2016
Britain’s talked about style icons inspire our high-street fashion looks.
David Gandy is Britain’s most successful male model and the world’s highest earning. At 36, he is going from strength to strength, recently partnering with Marks and Spencer, meeting Prince Charles, and gracing billboards around the country. This month sees the launch of his own collection of loungewear for Autograph at M&S, but it’s his unique and refined taste in everyday fashion we’ll be looking at for inspiration.
Dermot O’Leary, the cheeky chappy host of the X Factor, presenter of his own radio show on BBC Radio 2 and is director of his own production company. His love for fashion has seen him in GQ’s most stylish men of 2016 with a passion for brands such as Acne Studios, A.P.C, Maison Margiela and Oliver Spencer. We love his mix and match style of smart casual and tailoring.
These two looks worn by David and Dermot represent a very cool, smart casual appearance that would work on a date, going out for a meal or a night out with friends. It’s your choice entirely how you smarten it up, but both are based on a stylish bomber jacket, nicely fitted jeans and a leather boot or shoe. Underneath, you can throw on a plain T-shirt or – as David shows – a denim shirt with a textured plain tie. This would look great with a plain unbuttoned shirt or a roll neck sweater as winter kicks in. Let’s take a look at the high street picks* we’ve gone for.
1. Khaki green bomber jacket, H&M, £39.99
2. Light grey skinny jeans, Primark, £10
3. Denim shirt, Primark, £9
4. Dark brown Chelsea boots, H & M, £29.99
This look worn by David for the latest Oliver Spencer fashion launch shows subtle confidence. If you saw these items hanging in the wardrobe, you might not think to put them together. This is proof that contrasting fabrics, textures and colours can be worn at the same time. If you stick to classic, well fitting individual pieces, you can mix and match to create your own great look.
Total look price – £88.98
1. Black bomber jacket, H & M, £24.99
2. Grey roll neck jumper, Primark, £9
3. Grey jeans, H & M, £20
4. Beige Derby shoes, H & M, £8.99
Dermot looks casual and smart at this fashion event. This is actually quite a safe outfit, but combines all the essential classics that can be worn time and again and always look great. His black shiny bomber would look jazzy enough at an after party. He has layered the look with a simple T-shirt, but this would also work with the roll neck jumper we’ve put with it here. The focus is on the jacket and jeans, creating a slim figure. The Derby shoes should be a staple of all men’s wardrobes. Here they add a touch of smart sophistication and would work well with any dark jean or chino.
