Getting fit for the New Year? Here's where to buy affordable sportswear.
Going to a gym for the first time can be a daunting prospect. It might be part of your post-Christmas fitness resolution or as preparation for a charity run you have coming up later on in the year.
No matter your motivation, it doesn’t have to cost you a fortune to kit yourself out with a great workout outfit. Many high-street retailers offer budget-friendly alternatives to big name brands. To show you, we've put together two outfits* – one for a woman and another for a man – that you could wear to the gym for the first time.
1. Hoodie, Primark, £10
2. Vest top, Primark, £4
3. Sports bra, Primark, £3.50
4. Leggings, F&F active, £10
There's no point spending a lot on sportswear, especially when you're not sure on the type of activities you're going to do or even if you'll keep up the exercise!
Start your outfit off with something simple, like a pair of leggings. Leggings can be extremely comfortable to wear while you exercise and are stretchy enough for you to move with ease – so they're a must. This pair from Tesco are incredibly affordable.
You can brighten the outfit up with something like this coral vest top. If you need support while you exercise, you might want to invest in a sports bra. This grey one with mesh back could be just what you need and is only £3.50. Finish off the look with this black panel hoodie – it'll keep you warm and complete your look.
You can pick up this entire outfit for just £27.50!
1. Sports jacket, Primark, £15
2. T-shirt, Primark, £3.50
3. Sports joggers, Primark, £12
4. Shorts, H&M, £8.99
Before you start shopping, you need to decide whether you want to wear shorts or a pair of jogging bottoms to the gym. Knee-length shorts like this grey pair from H&M are ideal for running and these ones in particular feature fast-drying fabric with an elasticated drawstring.
Or you could opt for a pair of joggers if you want to cover up. These are comfortable to wear and could be just what you need for a low-impact activity like yoga or pilates. You can complete the outfit by picking up a basic tee like this blue one from Primark.
Want to exercise outside? Make sure you invest in something like this navy sport jacket – it'll keep you dry and look good at the same time!
This outfit (with just one pair of bottoms) comes to around £30.50. Remember, you don't have to join a gym to start working out. Here are all the places you can work out for free.
