Universal Credit and benefit payment dates October 2026: When will DWP money show in your account?

The cost of living is upping the pressure on millions of households in Britain, making benefit payments in October 2026 as important as ever.
Sometimes bank holidays can change the dates when DWP payments are made, but there are no holidays in October 2026 meaning you can expect benefits to land in your account on the usual date.
However, if your usual payment date falls on a weekend, it should be paid on the working day before.
Payment dates vary by benefit with Universal Credit, PIP, State Pension and Child Benefit all following different schedules.
When will benefits be paid in October 2026?
As there are no bank holidays in October, there shouldn't be any early payments or irregularities in payments.
The date you're paid just depends on the benefit you receive. In some cases, the date your claim started affects when you claim appears.
This is how the different benefits are paid:
Attendance Allowance – usually every four weeks
Carer’s Allowance – weekly in advance or every four weeks
Child Benefit – usually every four weeks (or weekly if you’re a single parent or get certain benefits)
Disability Living Allowance (DLA) – usually every four weeks
Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) – usually every two weeks
Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA) – usually every two weeks
Maternity Allowance – every two or four weeks
Pension Credit – usually every four weeks
Personal Independence Payment (PIP) – usually every 4 weeks
State Pension – usually every two weeks
Universal Credit – every month on the same date based on when your claim started
Will Universal Credit be paid early in October?
There are no bank holidays in October, which means Universal Credit claimants should receive their payment on their normal date.
Universal Credit is paid monthly, with your payment date based on when you made your claim.
The only exception is when your payment date falls on a weekend and in this case the DWP payment is made on Friday - the working day - before the weekend.
It means if your usual payment date is on the 14th of the month, you should be getting it on the 14 October.
But if it's 18th of the month, which is a Sunday in October, you should get it on Friday 16 October.
What if my Universal Credit or PIP payment doesn't arrive?
If your Universal Credit, State Pension, PIP or another benefit doesn't show in your account, there are some easy steps to follow to work out what happened.
First, if your payment was due on a weekend or bank holiday, check if it was paid on the Friday before.
PIP is normally paid every four weeks and remember that PIP payment dates are normally set according to your individual award, rather than everyone receiving the money on the same day.
If you claim Universal Credit, sign in to your online account and check your payment statement. This will show:
how much you're due to receive
when it should be paid
whether there have been any deductions or changes to your award
If the DWP or HMRC has changed your payment or needs more information, you may have received a letter, text message or a message in your online account.
If you've checked everything and your payment still hasn't arrived, contact the department responsible for your benefit as soon as possible.
Check which benefits you could get
