Argos Card is moving to Argos Pay: key dates, BNPL details and what to expect

Argos is replacing the Argos Card with Argos Pay, a new digital credit account. If you already have an Argos Card, here’s a clear guide to what’s happening, when the change will happen, and what it means for you.
What’s changing?
Argos is moving away from plastic cards and shifting all Argos Card accounts to Argos Pay, a fully digital credit account you’ll manage online or through a new app.
You won’t need to apply again or pass a credit check. Your account will update automatically once Argos tells you it’s time.
Until then, you ca nkeep using your Argos Card just as you do today.
When will the Argos Card change to Argos Pay?
Starting in March, Argos will start guiding customers through getting ready for the switch. By April, customer accounts will update to Argos Pay. Existing customers will be invited to register for the app or Online Account Manager so they can keep managing their account.
If you have an Argos Card, don't apply for Argos Pay right now. Wait for the switch instead. Only new customers can apply for Argos Pay right now, as Argos Card applications are no longer open.
What is Argos Pay?
Argos Pay is the new digital replacement for the Argos Card. Once your account updates, you will:
Pay with a username and passcode instead of a plastic card
Manage everything in a new app or online
Get more repayment options, including instalments up to 48 months
Still have access to Buy Now Pay Later (BNPL), flexible credit and fixed instalments
How Buy Now Pay Later works with Argos Pay
Argos Pay will continue to offer Buy Now Pay Later (BNPL). If you don’t repay the full amount by the end of the BNPL period, interest will start being charged on the remaining balance at your normal purchase rate.
You'll get reminders before your BNPL period ends with a statement showing how much you owe and your repayment options, including paying the full balance or paying monthly. If you pay the full balance, you won't pay any interest.
As with BNPL arrangements in general, if you don't make the minimum payment by the due date, you could be charged a fee, and your account could be reported to Credit Reference Agencies.
What happens if you make payments before the BNPL interest free period ends?
This depends on what other balances you have on your Argos Pay account:
If you’re paying interest on other balances - Any payments you make before the BNPL period ends will go towards those interest‑bearing balances first.
If all your other balances are at 0% interest - Your payments will go towards whichever plan ends first.
The idea is to help you get the most value from your BNPL plan and keep costs as low as possible.
Do I need to change how I make payments now with my Argos Card?
If you have an Argos Card, you don't have to make any changes to how you make payments right now. You'll still have your normal payment options available to you, except paying by post which is no longer available.
When your account updates to Argos Pay, some payment methods might change. Argos will send full details in due course.
Where can I use Argos Pay?
While you still have your Argos Card, you can use it in all the usual places, including all Argos stores, Habitat, and Sainsbury's.
However, once Argos Pay comes in, you'll no longer be able to use it at Sainsbury's. You'll only be able to use it at Argos and Habitat.
Argos Card becomes Argos Pay - overview of changes
The Argos Card is being replaced by Argos Pay, a digital credit account you’ll manage online or through a new app.
You won’t need to reapply as your account will update automatically, and you should keep using your Argos Card until then.
The switch happens from April, with info and setup guidance sent to customers from February onwards.
