Best supermarket fuel offers to save on petrol and diesel as Asda brings back 5p off a litre

Petrol and diesel prices re turning up the pressure on household budgets, but driver can use a new supermarket discount to save.

Motorists can cut the cost of filling up with Asda's new offer which gives shoppers 5p off a litre of fuel when they spend £40 or more in a single shop.

The offer is available to Asda Rewards customers from now until 14 October 2026, with the fuel discount available to use until 31 October.

The offer could save a driver with a typical 60-litre family car up to £3 on a single fill-up, according to Asda.

It comes as rising fuel prices helped push inflation up to 3.1%, according to the latest figures.

How does the Asda 5p fuel saving offer work?

To get the fuel discount, you need to be an Asda Rewards customer and spend £40 or more in one in-store transaction at Asda between now and 14 October 2026.

The 5p-per-litre fuel coupon will then be added automatically to your Asda Rewards app and you can use it when you buy fuel at a participating Asda or Asda Express filling station.

The coupon can be redeemed until 31 October 2026 and can be used at 262 participating Asda and Asda Express fuel sites offering Asda-branded fuel.

It is worth checking before making a special trip, as the offer is not available at every fuel station.

Nectar: Get 5p off a litre with 300 points

Sainsbury's shoppers collecting Nectar points can save on fuel by using their points at participating Esso service stations.

You can swap 300 Nectar points for 5p off every litre of fuel.

Simply swipe your Nectar card after filling up, and if you have enough points you'll be asked whether you want to trade them in for the discount.

The discount applies to the first 60 litres of fuel, meaning you could save up to £3 on a 60-litre fill-up - meaning it matches the Asda offer.

Tesco and Morrisons fuel offers

Tesco and Morrisons have both run fuel discounts and promotions through their loyalty schemes, so it's worth checking your Tesco Clubcard account and app Or Morrisons More card before filling up.

Fuel coupons can be time-limited, so shoppers should check the expiry date and terms of any offer rather than assuming a previous promotion is still available.

Cheapest petrol price near you

One of the simplest ways to save on filling up is to check the price of fuel at different nearby forecourts before you fill your tank.

Prices can vary significantly between stations, even when they are only a few miles apart.

The Government's Fuel Finder service provides information on fuel prices and forecourt locations, or apps and sites such as PetrolPrices.com also allow drivers to compare prices.

Obviously, don't drive a long way out of your way to save a few pence per litre.

If the cheaper station requires an extra journey, you could use more fuel getting there and wipe out the saving.
