Supermarket loyalty apps promise a lot, but most of the time they end up sitting on your phone doing very little.

Lidl Plus is one of the few that feels like it gives you something tangible back. Scan the app at the checkout and it keeps track of how much you spend each month, unlocking the occasional freebie along the way. Sometimes it’s a pastry, sometimes it’s chocolate and sometimes it’s a vegetable (yay, healthy!).

Lidl has refreshed its rewards for March 2026, which means the freebies you unlock have changed slightly.

Naturally, that sent me down a Lidl Plus rabbit hole because I wanted to know one thing and one thing only: which reward gives you the best value for money?

Because while all free food is good food, some of these rewards are pulling more weight than others.

So, I broke down each spending tier, looked at what the free items usually cost and worked out how to squeeze the most value out of the Lidl Plus rewards system.

How Lidl Plus rewards work

The Lidl Plus app tracks how much you spend in Lidl across the month.

As you hit certain spending milestones, the app unlocks reward vouchers that you can redeem on your next shop.

The rules have stayed the same as always and work like a tick-box system, which means you unlock each tier as you climb the ladder. If you spend £250 in a month, you don’t just get the 10% discount, you also unlock the bakery item, fruit or veg, chocolate and nuts rewards along the way.

Once a reward appears in your app, you usually have a limited number of days to redeem it before it expires, so it’s worth checking your coupons before you head to the checkout.

Your total spend resets at the end of every calendar month, which means if you’re close to the next tier it can sometimes be worth squeezing in one last Lidl trip before the clock rolls over.

As of March 2026, the Lidl Plus reward tiers are:

  • Spend £10 – free bakery item

  • Spend £50 – free fruit or vegetable

  • Spend £100 – free Fin Carré 100g chocolate bar

  • Spend £150 – free Alesto nuts or dried fruit

  • Spend £250+ – 10% off your next shop

Here’s how to make the most of each one.

Spend £10 – free bakery item

The first Lidl Plus milestone unlocks a free bakery item when you spend £10 in store.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, Lidl’s bakery section is dangerously good. The smell alone is enough to derail a sensible shopping list.

My long-time favourite, the Dubai chocolate muffin, has been bested by the Mini Egg brownie that has jumped straight to the top of my wish list.

How to get the most value

To maximise this reward, pick one of the larger pastries or filled muffins, which usually cost around £1 to £1.30. This means if you’re all about value for money stick the muffins because last I checked (very recently, I should admit), the mini egg brownie is sitting at around 89p.

But, if you manage to bag something worth over £1, on a £10 shop you’re getting roughly 10 to 13% value back, which makes this one of the strongest rewards percentage-wise.

Not bad for something that also doubles as a little post-shop treat.

Spend £50 – free fruit or vegetable

Hitting the £50 mark in Lidl Plus unlocks a free fruit or vegetable voucher.

It might sound mundane, but there’s something oddly satisfying about walking out of the store with produce you didn’t pay for.

How to get the most value

The trick here is choosing the highest value produce you can find.

You could redeem the voucher on something small like a cucumber or a single pepper. But if you want the most value, think bigger.

Items like large potato sacks, onions or bigger fruit packs often cost around £3 to £4, and the voucher frequently works on those too, although it’s always worth checking the app for eligible items.

Redeeming the reward on a £4 item after spending £50 works out at roughly 8% value back, which makes this one of the best mid-tier rewards.

Spend £100 – free Fin Carré chocolate bar

At £100 spend, Lidl Plus now unlocks a free Fin Carré 100g chocolate bar.

If you’ve never tried them before, Fin Carré is Lidl’s own chocolate range and surprisingly good for the price.

Bars usually retail for around £1 to £1.50 depending on the flavour.

How to get the most value

To squeeze the most value out of this reward, choose one of the more premium flavours, which usually sit at the higher end of the price range.

For example:

  • Standard milk chocolate – around £1

  • Nut or speciality varieties – closer to £1.40

It’s not the biggest saving in percentage terms, but a free chocolate bar is still a welcome addition to the shopping bag.

Spend £150 – free Alesto nuts or dried fruit

If you spend £150 in a month, Lidl Plus unlocks a free Alesto nuts or dried fruit pack.

This reward is fairly solid because Alesto snacks usually retail for around £2 to £3 depending on the pack and almonds are a very pricey snack these days.

How to get the most value

To maximise this tier, pick one of the larger mixed nut packs, which tend to be the most expensive in the range.

For example:

  • Basic nut packs – around £1.50

  • Mixed nuts or speciality blends – £2.50 to £3

Redeeming the voucher on a £3 pack after spending £150 works out at roughly 2% value back.

It’s not massive, but it’s still a useful freebie if you regularly buy snack packs.

Spend £250+ – get 10% off your next shop

This is where Lidl Plus starts delivering proper savings.

Spend £250 or more in a month and you unlock 10% off your next shop, usually capped at £20.

How to get the maximum discount

To get the full value from this reward, you’ll want to use the voucher on a bigger shop.

For example:

  • £50 shop – £5 off

  • £100 shop – £10 off

  • £200 shop – £20 off (maximum saving)

If you hit the £20 cap, you’re effectively getting around 8% back after spending £250 that month, making it the strongest Lidl Plus reward overall.

The only catch is the voucher normally expires within about a week, so you’ll need to plan your next shop fairly quickly.

Which Lidl Plus reward gives the best value?

If we rank the rewards purely by value for money, they roughly look like this:

  • £250+ tier – 10% off your next shop

  • £50 tier – free fruit or vegetable

  • £10 tier – free bakery item

  • £150 tier – free Alesto nuts or dried fruit

  • £100 tier – free Fin Carré chocolate bar

The 10% discount is clearly the biggest saving if you can reach it.

But realistically, the £50 fruit and veg reward is one of the smartest tiers for everyday shoppers to aim for, especially if you use it on higher-value produce.

Is Lidl Plus actually worth using?

If you already shop at Lidl, the Lidl Plus app is absolutely worth using.

It’s free, it takes seconds to scan at the checkout and even if you never reach the higher tiers, you’ll still collect a steady stream of small freebies throughout the year.

Used strategically, the rewards can easily add up to £60 to £100 or more in value annually depending on how often you shop.

And even if the biggest reward I personally reach is a pastry, a chocolate bar and the occasional vegetable, I’ll still be scanning the app every time.

Because if Lidl is handing out a free Mini Egg brownie, I’m taking it.
