Primark announces home delivery in another major change for UK customers

Primark fans rejoice - the fashion chain has revealed that it will start offering online delivery in the UK for the first time.

It marks a major change to Primark's traditionally store-led shopping model.

However, the brand is keeping customer guessing a little while longer and not yet given an exact date when we'll be able to get items delivered to our door nor revealed how much the service will cost.

It comes as Primark prices across its Autumn / Winter range as part of its 'iconic value' campaign.

The chain is shaking things up as the retail landscape in the UK is as competitive as ever.

Primark no doubt hopes the latest changes will win more customers through its doors (or, shortly, website).

When will Primark home delivery launch?

Primark has not yet confirmed a launch date for its home delivery service in the UK.

Parent company Associated British Foods (ABF) said Primark will continue to grow its existing Click & Collect service before introducing home delivery in the future.

The retailer has also acquired a highly automated fulfilment facility in Sheffield, which will support its expanding online operation.

Sadly, this means shoppers will need to wait a while longer before they can place a Primark order for delivery to their home.

However, given the news we could reasonable expect more updates in the next 12 months.

Primark already offers Click & Collect

Primark has already made a significant move into online shopping through its Click & Collect service.

Customers can browse selected products online, place an order and collect it from a participating store.

ABF said Click & Collect sales have continued to grow strongly in the UK, helping Primark develop its digital shopping capabilities.

Home delivery will give customers another option, rather than replacing the retailer's existing stores and Click & Collect service.

Will Primark delivery cost extra?

Primark has not yet announced its delivery charges.

It is also too early to know whether the retailer will offer free delivery above a certain spending threshold, introduce different delivery options or charge a flat fee.

These details are likely to be announced when Primark gets closer to launching the service.

For shoppers, delivery costs will be important when comparing the convenience of ordering online with visiting a store or using Click & Collect.

Primark is cutting prices on hundreds of products

The news of online deliver comes after Primark launched its “Iconic Value” campaign, giving customers lower prices across hundreds of products.

The price reductions cover a range of categories and are being rolled out across its autumn/winter range. Primark said the initial response from customers had been positive, with particular interest in products including nightwear, leisurewear and performance clothing.

It shows the retailer is shaking up the business with a focus on low prices with a major expansion of the way customers can shop.

The new home delivery service will eventually make it possible to buy Primark's lower-priced products online and have eligible purchases sent directly to your home.

What will Primark shoppers be able to order?

Primark has not yet confirmed exactly which products will be available for home delivery.

Its existing online operation does not currently offer the full range found in its stores, so shoppers should not assume that every Primark product will be available to order for delivery.
