Rising food poverty in the UK

With the rising cost of living outstripping wage increases, many families are finding it tough to make ends meet and to put a meal on the table every day. For more and more people, the only option is to rely on a food bank.

thinkmoney worked with 70 independent food banks to uncover the growing strain they face, as rising numbers of people turn to them for help.

Here we uncover the reasons for the rise in food poverty, the numbers going hungry to feed their families, and the lack of fresh meat and vegetables given to people using food banks. We also show the worrying prediction independent food banks make about the planned changes to the welfare system.
